Spelling and vocabulary

For this term, we will be studying new vocabulary words each week. They will be listed a month in advance on this site.

• First day of the week
  • words given in class and discussed
  • homework assigned; definitions and sentences
• Second day of the week
  • homework taken up in class
• Last day of the the week
  • Test taken, spelling and multiple choice definitions
  • Tests marked and returned by peers
  • Sentences written using the words to expose the meaning.
• Words written on cards and displayed on word walls
• Last day of the month
  • Summary test of all words given this month.
  • Tests marked, recorded and returned by following day.

Grade 8 Homeroom Math

Equivalent Fractions

Using pattern blocks, illustrate the concept of equivalent fractions. Include compound fractions and addition questions. This assignment was given class time.

Tinkerplots -cats file, printed

Students have worked with Tinkerplots and know how to solve the questions posed. Students will now revisit the assignment and annotate it with meaningful observations. Each student will print his or her own file and submit it for review. He or she will also keep a copy in a folder in a student account.
