New spelling words given Monday  This is week 3 of the September words.

For parents: the basic homework schedule for homeroom is as follows:

  • Monday- Spelling
  • Tuesday- Math
  • Wednesday- Writing
  • Thursday - math and spelling test study
  • Every evening should include at least a half hour of sustained reading.

Grade Seven students must produce a single simple model, such as a house and it must have at least 3 repeating elements.

Grade 8 students must produce at least one sophisticated model and it must have at least 3 repeating elements. The list of suggested models is posted on the assignment page.

Writing: Create the graphic novel of the story of how their family came to Canada. Pages may be downloaded from the sidebar on the left, or are available in the class. Please tell your story using the conventions discussed in class. Use establishing shots, text bubbles, author's voice and other techniques to tell the story effectively.

The criteria is listed below:

  • use graphic novel format
  • have at least 3 elements of dialog between characters. This might be 3 conversations where the characters take turns speaking.
  • tell the story of how your family came to Canada. This may be a story from long ago, or it may be recent. You will have to choose which elements to include and which to leave out.
  • Use a minimum of 2 graphic novel pages and a maximum of 4 graphic novel pages.
  • You may use the blank templates downloadable on the left, or you may choose to create your own boxes.

 

 




Spelling word homework for Monday: Spelling sentences for five of the words. Definitions for all ten words. Please include your source for the definitions. These should be written in your new language notebook, or kept in your language binder.
