New spelling words given Monday This is week 2 of the September words.

For parents: the basic homework schedule for homeroom is as follows:

Monday- Spelling
Tuesday- Math
Wednesday- Writing
Thursday - math and spelling test study
Every evening should include at least a half hour of sustained reading.

Textbook work with integers and variables. Hand in math homework from Tuesday

Some students will work on the classic Four Fours problem.

"Given no more than four instances of the digit 4,
represent all integers using a finite number of
mathematical symbols and operators in common use."

Find all the integers from 1 to 100, using the four fours

For example:

(4+4) / (4+4) = 1

(4+4) X (4+4)=8

4+4+4+4 = 16

Acceptable symbols and operators
+,- addition subtraction
*,/ multiplication, division
sqrt,^ square root, power
! factorial, eg: n! = n * (n-1) * (n-2) * ... * 2 * 1
. decimal point, eg: .4
` repeating decimal, eg: .4` = .444444444...

Drop Everything and Read time

205 Grade 8 Design and Tech: All students will be given Design and Tech safety forms.

Grade 8 students will be making a small marble maze. This will be controlled by hydraulics and pneumatics.

Reading homework: students should have read a significant portion of a book last night. We will be producing writing reflections based on our books.
